Deficient eNOS Phosphorylation Is a Mechanism for Diabetic Vascular Dysfunction Contributing to Increased Stroke Size Basic Sciences
Conclusions— Diminished eNOS phosphorylation is a mechanism of vascular dysfunction in db/db mice. We show here that modulation of the eNOS S1176 phosphorylation site in db/db mice is associated with improved vascular reactivity and improved outcome to stroke after middle cerebral artery occlusion.

Early Diagnosis of Vascular Cognitive Impairment Leads to Improved Treatment of Vascular Risk Factors (P2.095)
Conclusions:Medical management of vascular risk factors improves in patients with undiagnosed early VCI following a diagnosis of VaMCI and implementation of educational and caregiver strategies. Vascular risk factors in INPH: A prospective case-control study (the INPH-CRasH study)
Conclusions: Our findings confirm that patients with INPH have more VRFs and lack the protective factors present in the general population. Almost 25% of cases of INPH may be explained by VRFs. This suggests that INPH may be a subtype of vascular dementia. Targeted interventions against modifiable VRFs are likely to have beneficial effects on INPH.

Cognitive deficits of pure subcortical vascular dementia vs Alzheimer disease: PiB-PET-based study
Conclusions: Patients with PiB(–) SVaD were better at memory but worse at frontal function than patients with PiB(+) AD. The differences in memory/frontal functions observed between the 2 groups, however, could not differentiate all individual data due to some overlap in the cutoff threshold.

Seoul criteria for PiB(-) subcortical vascular dementia based on clinical and MRI variables
Conclusion: When patients meet the DSM-IV criteria for vascular dementia and also have severe white matter hyperintensities, younger age, greater number of lacunes, and lesser MTA, these are predictive of a PiB(–) scan in patients with SVaD. Classification of evidence: This study provides Class II evidence that the combination of younger age, greater number of lacunes, and lesser MTA identifies patients with SVaD at lower risk of Alzheimer disease pathology.

Early- vs late-onset subcortical vascular cognitive impairment
Conclusions: EO-SVCI patients showed more vascular related factors, while LO-SVCI patients exhibited more Alzheimer disease–related characteristics. The greater number of lacunes in EO-SVCI might account for the more severe frontal network disruption and frontal-executive dysfunction, while the greater amyloid burden in LO-SVCI might account for the more severe cortical and hippocampal atrophy. Our findings suggest that the age at onset is a crucial factor that determines distinct features in SVCI patients, such as pathologic burden, structural changes, and cognitive function.

Nox2-Derived Superoxide Contributes to Cerebral Vascular Dysfunction in Diet-Induced Obesity Basic Sciences
Conclusions— Endothelial dysfunction produced by a HFD occurs in a temporal manner and appears much earlier in cerebral arterioles than in carotid arteries. Genetic studies revealed that Nox2-derived superoxide plays a major role in endothelial dysfunction produced by a HFD. Such functional changes may serve to predispose blood vessels to reduced vasodilator responses and thus may contribute to alterations in cerebral blood flow associated with obesity.
